#13 Lighting Research

After researching and practicing different camera angles I realized that the pictures were not coming out as I had hoped because the lighting was off. Lighting can add different emotions and feelings to a scene. In this blog, I will research 3 different lighting techniques I want to utilize in my film.

The first lighting technique I want to research is ambient lighting. Ambient lighting is also known as general lighting. It creates an even amount of light throughout a room. This is light that was not added to a room/place. An example of ambient light is "Only Lovers Left Alive".  I will most likely use this type of lighting in my short film because it will create a natural-looking scene since the lighting isn't harsh.

The next type of lighting I researched is low lighting. Low lighting has little to no bright lights/colors and uses shadows. It creates a dramatic or somber mood. Low light is used to darken the mood of a film. It is most commonly used in drama and horror films. An example of low lighting is in "Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban". I will be using this in my film since I want certain scenes to be dark when my characters are feeling alone.

AJ on X: "I guess what I'm trying to say is - watch Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. It's by far the most expressive, spirited and heartfelt Potter film. And

The last type of lighting is high-key lighting. This is the opposite of low lighting. High-key lighting has very minimal shadows and everything is very bright. This type of lighting creates a happy mood in a scene. An example of high-key lighting is in "Call Me By Your Name". I will be using this in my film when my two main characters are together and happy with each other after feeling so lone.
