#5 Preliminary Exercise

In this picture, I had my grandparents stand by their Christmas tree. I had them go stand there so I could practice with lighting outside and lighting from inside. I placed them there because it created a comfortable feeling. With this placement, I also captured different lighting tones from outdoor and indoor lighting. I may use this in my final film to show my two main characters in a calm environment.

I took this picture of my parents when we were in a darker restaurant with one main source of light above us. To take this picture I had to adjust the brightness in certain areas so you could see both of their faces. Taking this picture helped me understand how I should angle and adjust things on my phone since I will be using it to film. This would be used in my documentary when my two main characters are with each other since it will show their real emotions even if they aren't saying how they feel.

I took this picture outside of my grandparent's house during golden hour. When I walked outside I thought it looked beautiful and knew I would want to use this in my film. This picture goes hand-in-hand with my first picture since I want to practice with natural lighting. I would use this in my film as an establishing shot since it shows the audience where the film takes place. An establishing shot is the audience's first impression of the film and can create meaning with different colors, music/sounds, and lighting.

I took this picture from the backseat of my car. I wanted to practice taking shots like this while not being able to see myself or the phone in the rearview mirror. Im not sure if I would use this in my short film but if I did it would be in a scene where my two main characters are having a deep/important conversation.
