#21 Character Names

In this blog post, I will discuss my character's names and what led me to pick these names. Choosing names for my characters instead of using my actor's real names adds a personal connection to the characters. It adds a personal connection because I got inspiration from things that I love. 

I decided to name my female main character "Taylor" I chose this as a name because of my favorite artist, Taylor Swift. I have referenced Taylor Swift and her music multiple times throughout assignments and projects in school. The name "Taylor" is a common and simple name but I have always thought it was a pretty name. Taylor Swift Was my inspiration for this because she is always vocal about her struggles in life through music. Since my film is about 2 teenagers who struggle with their mental health and have the constant feeling of being alone, I want my characters to be named after someone who speaks out about these topics. 

The name I picked for my male main character is also inspired by Taylor Swift. I chose the name "John" after the song "Dear John". While the song "Dear John" was about her negative/toxic relationship with John Mayer, I will be portraying this character as someone positive. In my film, I want to show the audience that my two main characters are each other's safe spaces and their escape from all of the negativity in their lives. By choosing a name based off of a song that talks about negative relationships, I will know what not to do in my film.
