#38 Scenes 4-8 Breakdown
In this blog post, I will explain the steps I took to film scenes 4-7.
Scene 4: In Scene 4 I had Hayden hold the door slightly open and walk into the classroom. This scene was fairly easy to film and only took me one try which I am very happy about.
Scene 5 and 6: In Scene 5 I tried a couple different angles but decided that standing behind Evan and having the camera pointed at Hayden would give the best results. I filmed this scene 3 times to make sure I got the best angle possible. I made the final decision to have the camera pointed at Hayden since she was the one talking. I also made sure that part of Evan was visible so the audience knew he was there. For scene 6 I stood behind Hayden and made Evan the main person since he was talking.
Scene 7: This is the first time both my characters will be seen talking in the same shot. I decided to use a two-shot for this scene so the audience can see their emotions throughout the whole interaction. I gave Hayden and Evan ideas for conversation topics and then let them make changes so it was natural. I filmed this scene many times because we made mistakes. I also had to adjust the lighting multiple times. This scene will start the progression of my actors getting closer and realizing that they like each other.
The last scene shows John asking for Taylor's number. This scene is important because the audience will be able to see that something will happen between the two. I tried 2 different angles for this scene. I decided to have Hayden start off in the frame walking towards the door and then have Evan walk into the frame.
